New Architecture
Driving around, I saw all these new mega churches, even one in the midst of a busy shopping center. These large, featureless buildings–it doesn’t even seem like they’re about faith at all but mass anonymity. There’s the oft used metaphor of comparing followers to sheep. Are so many people content to do what everyone else is doing and to squeeze themselves into something that is pretty much one-size-fits-all?
What Is Beautiful?
This morning, the news remarked upon a strange website called beautifulpeople.net where people get to join a club for beautiful people if they get voted in by the members. The founder claims that the whole process is democratic. Yeah right. Only a select group of people get to vote.
The cynic in me thinks that there are probably tons of fake and/or doctored profiles on that site.
I suppose people can do whatever they want. If they want to create a clique for “beautiful” people, there’s no one to stop them. But I also can’t help but think that this is wrong, that they’re perpetuating the very things that make this society seem artificial and superficial.
