Booking Through Thursday: Rolling

Do you get on a roll when you read, so that one book leads to the next, which leads to the next, and so on and so on?

I don’t so much mean something like reading a series from beginning to end, but, say, a string of books that all take place in Paris. Or that have anthropologists as the main character. Or were written in the same year. Something like that… Something that strings them together in your head, and yet, otherwise could be different genres, different authors…

Sometimes. It really only happens when I actually have large chunks of time to read and I have “hits” every time I finish a book. A “hit” is when I finish reading a book and think to myself, “that was pretty good” or “that really gave me something to think about.” And if I’ve enjoyed a book I’ve just read–regardless of the subject–I am more likely to pick up the next book in my pile.

This peters out, however, when I get to a lackluster book. Example: Earlier this month, I read a book with a terrible cover and a wacky premise that I thought would never work which really ended up surprising me on how well it was done (yes, yes, I’ll get to the reviews eventually). That made me excited to read the next book in my to-be-read pile (different author, different genre). But there was enough annoying things happening in the plot of this second book that my fiction reading for the rest of the month totally went kaput.

The Thursday Threesome: Therapeutic Moisturizing Lotion

Onesome: Therapeutic– household addons: Do you use candles or aroma therapy or bath soaps or salts around your place?

Twosome: Moisturizing?– How’s the weather been? It’s the rainy season in the US; what’s happening where you live?

It’s snowing right now.

Threesome: Lotion– Since it’s Winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s dry skin time (yes, you too, Mark!). Do you have any hand lotion suggestions for the gang?

Use it often.
